My stoma sticks out about an inch.
Since i started a new med gattex in the attempt to get less output and some nutrition from what i eat on tpn for rest of life the width of stoma increased a tad where the wafer has to be adjusted more to fit.

Ileostomy output is more acidic and corrosive as the enzymes are not being broken down by the colon.
So it is important to take special care of the stoma to avoid.
You may see a little mucus.
Seemed ok for awhile but had to add eakin seals that became a nightmare getting all of the glue off when.
There was about an inch of well intestine protruding out of my stoma.
Put a high priority on ostomy skin health.
Damaged skin around your stoma can be hard to manage because you need to place the ostomy pouching system over the irritated area.
Most stomas stick out a little over the skin but some are flat.
The skin around your stoma should be dry.
Making sure your ostomy pouch adheres properly will go a long way towards preventing leaks.
Faecal contact with skin for those with a colostomy pancaking where the output sticks to the top of the bag can cause the bag to lift and the output to come into contact with the skin which can cause sore irritated skin.
Always has since i got it in 11 12.
Your stoma may bleed a little when you clean it.
And now i write this i m not sure why i just never asked the surgeon directly.

The feces that come out of the stoma can be very irritating to the skin.
